The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) stands beside the Giza pyramids and is the largest archaeological museum in the world. Its galleries are devoted entirely to ancient Egypt, with more than 100,000 objects on display.
The centrepiece is the complete funerary collection of Tutankhamun, shown together for the first time, including the golden mask and the royal chariots. The Grand Staircase offers sweeping views of the pyramids through a 60-metre glass wall.
What you will see
- The Tutankhamun Galleries, including the gold mask.
- The Khufu Boats Museum, with a fully reconstructed solar boat.
- The Grand Hall and its colossal statue of Ramesses II.
- Thousands of objects never previously displayed.
Practical tips
- Book tickets online in advance, especially at weekends.
- Allow at least half a day; the museum is very large.
- Prices for non-Egyptians are set in US dollars and adjusted seasonally.
