It controls the Nile\u2019s annual flood, supplies much of Egypt\u2019s electricity, and created Lake Nasser, one of the largest man-made reservoirs on earth.<\/p>\n<p>Its construction also triggered the greatest archaeological rescue operation in history, when UNESCO moved Abu Simbel, Philae and many Nubian monuments to higher ground.<\/p>\n<h2>What you will see<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The dam itself, with its viewing platform and panorama.<\/li>\n<li>The Soviet-Egyptian friendship monument.<\/li>\n<li>Lake Nasser stretching south towards Sudan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Practical tips<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Usually visited together with Philae Temple.<\/li>\n<li>Photography from the dam is restricted in places \u2014 follow the signs.<\/li>\n<li>There is little shade;
